Job Summary
The Pre-Doctoral Researcher role is a 24‑month, fixed-term opportunity for recent or upcoming graduates to work closely with Google DeepMind India scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research problems in AI and machine learning. The role is designed to help you gain hands-on research experience before pursuing, or deciding to pursue, a doctoral program. You will contribute to both fundamental research and applied projects that can influence Google products and AI for social good.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with research mentors to define research problems or novel applications of machine learning.
- Implement and evaluate algorithms, experiments, or human-computer interfaces using frameworks such as JAX or TensorFlow.
- Conduct research, analyze results, and prepare work for publication in top conferences and journals.
- Stay current with advances in machine learning and related fields to inform research directions.
- Use research insights to influence design decisions for products and tools.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related), or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python, C/C++, or Java.
- Demonstrated research experience in machine learning or AI (open source projects, campus labs, internships, or publications).
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent research experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
