Job Summary

Canonical is seeking talented and ambitious new graduates with an outstanding academic record and a strong passion for open source to join its global engineering team. As a Graduate Software Engineer, you’ll work from home on high-impact projects that power major companies, clouds, and platforms worldwide. You’ll be involved in every layer of the Linux stack from firmware and kernel to desktop apps and cloud infrastructure making a real difference in the open source community. This is an opportunity to start your software engineering career with mentorship, global sprints, and exposure to advanced technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Shape product roadmap and strategy with your team at global sprints every six months
• Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, resilient, and user-friendly code in Python, Rust, Golang, C/C++, JavaScript, or Java
• Work on Linux system internals, developer tools, command-line apps, or cloud/container technologies
• Collaborate with global teams and the open source community, contributing to code reviews and issue trackers
• Respond to enterprise customer issues, building an understanding of professional software requirements
• Continuously develop your technical mastery and security awareness in software design
• Participate in pair programming, problem solving, and twice-yearly in-person sprints in exciting international locations

Qualifications & Skills

• Strong academic track record in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Informatics, or another STEM discipline
• Undergraduate degree completion for 2025/2026
• Proven ability in at least one of: Python, Rust, C/C++, Go, Java, or JavaScript
• Experience with Ubuntu or another major Linux distribution
• Experience with personal technical projects outside the curriculum
• Excellent English (written and spoken), interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events
  Nice to Have:
• Open source contributions or Linux packaging experience
• Leadership, writing, or presentation skills; business interest
