Infants (<1 yr): 60+ breaths/min Toddlers (1-5 yrs): 40+ breaths/min
Look for:
➤ Nostrils flaring ➤ Skin sucking in between ribs/neck ➤ Grunting with each breath ➤ Wheezing or whistling sounds
➤ High fever (often 102°F/39°C+) ➤ Wet, phlegmy cough (sounds “junky”) ➤ Chest pain (child cries when coughing)
➤ Extreme fatigue (too weak to play or eat) ➤ Refusing fluids (dehydration risk) ➤ Vomiting with cough/fever ➤ Lethargy (hard to wake up)
