Pneumonia = Lung Infection! Air sacs fill with fluid or pus, making breathing hard. Viruses, bacteria, or fungi can cause it.

Infants (<1 yr): 60+ breaths/min Toddlers (1-5 yrs): 40+ breaths/min

FAST BREATHING

Count breaths/minute!

LABORED BREATHING

Look for:

Nostrils flaring Skin sucking in between        ribs/neck Grunting with each breath Wheezing or whistling sounds

COUGH & FEVER

High fever (often 102°F/39°C+) Wet, phlegmy cough (sounds        “junky”) Chest pain (child cries when       coughing)

Other Warning Signs

Extreme fatigue (too weak       to play or eat) Refusing fluids (dehydration       risk) Vomiting with cough/fever Lethargy (hard to wake up)
